MSR-48

Maritime surveillance system, built on a Furuno solid-state radar sensor

A proven, unmodified Furuno marine radar sensor — surrounded by the USPGS target processor, multi-sensor fusion suite, and fire-control track server. One 20 lb package, one 12 VDC feed, one Ethernet cable into your command-and-control system.

The radar package is intended for airborne surveillance. Optional AI cameras, additional sensors, and electronic warfare (EW) equipment configure the system for land, sea, and airborne use.

Why an integrated system

Built on Furuno. Extended by USPGS.

We didn't reinvent the radar — we built the surveillance system the radar was missing. The sensor keeps its factory certifications and factory warranty; USPGS adds the processing, fusion, and C2 integration that turn a marine radar into a security sensor.

The sensor

A genuine Furuno radar, unmodified

At the core is a solid-state, X-band Furuno radar sensor — no magnetron, no tube replacement schedule. Integrated exactly as Furuno built it: factory type approvals, radio certifications, and the Furuno limited warranty remain intact and pass through to you.

The system — USPGS

The surveillance brain around it

USPGS adds automatic plot extraction with ARPA-style tracking up to 200 simultaneous targets, live fusion with AIS and ADS-B/UAT identity feeds, dark-target discrimination, an operator alert ring, and a multi-client fire-control track server — processed tracks and radar video over a single Ethernet connection.

The support

Two warranties, one integrator

Furuno's factory warranty covers the sensor. USPGS warrants the processor, software, and integration — and stands behind the complete system as your single point of contact for support, spares, and training.

Fusion & C2 software

Every contact identified — or flagged

Dark-target discrimination

Radar contacts with no correlated AIS or ADS-B/UAT identity are flagged automatically — dark vessels, non-squawking aircraft, and UAS rise above legitimate traffic.

Alert ring & track export

An operator-adjustable alert radius highlights penetrating tracks and streams them as prioritized records to the multi-client fire-control track server.

Slew-to-cue & RF detection

EO/IR AI-camera alerts and USPGS WiFi/Bluetooth drone-detection sensors fuse into the same tactical picture for visual confirmation.

Headless into any C2

ASTERIX and NMEA output modes, native track streams over TCP/UDP, UTC-stamped logging. Optional USPGS PPI console for standalone sites.

Options & configurations

One core package. Land, sea, and airborne fits.

The core radar package is intended for airborne surveillance — finding and tracking air targets. Around it, optional equipment configures the MSR-48 for land, sea, and airborne deployments:

Option

AI cameras

EO/IR AI cameras for visual confirmation of radar tracks — slew-to-cue onto the tactical picture, with camera alerts fused back into the common operating picture.

Option

Additional sensors

RF drone-detection sensors, AIS and ADS-B/UAT cooperative-ID receivers, and other sensor payloads integrated into the same track picture and C2 output.

Option

Electronic warfare (EW)

EW equipment packages available for qualifying programs, integrated with the sensor picture. Configuration and availability are subject to U.S. export authorization and end-user approval.

Representative detection ranges

Target classRepresentative RCSTypical detection range
Cargo vessel / large ship~10,000 m²20–26 nm 2
Light aircraft / helicopter~5 m²12–18 nm
Patrol boat / fishing vessel (15–30 m)~100 m²9–14 nm
RHIB / skiff / small craft~2 m²4–7 nm
Group 3 UAS (fixed-wing)~1 m²3–6 nm
Navigation buoy / person in water~0.5 m²1–3 nm
Group 1 small multirotor UAS~0.02 m²0.5–1.5 nm

1 Preliminary representative values pending field validation. Detection range varies with target aspect, antenna height, sea state, precipitation, and atmosphere. Figures assume 50 ft (15 m) antenna height, sea state ≤ 3, standard atmosphere, Pd 0.8. 2 Surface detection is horizon-limited; higher mounting extends surface coverage.

Integrated GNSS and heading sensor — each unit self-locates and self-orients, enabling multi-unit mesh deployments with overlapping coverage. Mounts on mast, tripod, vehicle, vessel, fixed site, or airborne platform; runs from vehicle battery, solar + battery, or shore mains.

Surveillance partnerships

Distribution, integration, and support

The Surveillance Systems Desk builds regional partnerships around the MSR-48 — a different model from ammunition licensing, run as its own program.

Distribution

Regional distribution

Country or regional distribution of MSR-48 systems, with published volume tiers at 1 / 10 / 100 / 1,000 units and framework agreements for fleet procurement.

Integration

Local system integration

Certified local integrators for installation, C2 interfacing (ASTERIX / NMEA / native track streams), and site commissioning — trained and supported by USPGS.

Support

Training & sustainment

Operator training, spares programs, and sustainment agreements. Furuno's factory warranty covers the sensor; USPGS backs the system — your local partner delivers both.

SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS PROGRAM

Sale and export of this system are subject to U.S. export control law; export jurisdiction is determined per configuration. International buyers must provide end-user certificates and all required documentation; delivery is contingent on U.S. Government authorization. Reference the Surveillance Systems Desk in all correspondence — this program is handled separately from our ammunition program.
